Reflections:What Can We Learn?

We watched the following videos Week 2 and took notes while we watched, so pull those out:

I expect a thorough response for each part. I also expect solid mechanics and fluency, so proofread your work please. See prompts below:

For the first three, I would like you to pick two videos that resonated with you the most and for each one, give a reflection on what points/ideas stood out to you (you must have at least 3) and connect/question, challenge/give your commentary on what YOU think. What do you see these videos teaching? Why do they matter? what can you learn and how do YOU think about what they purvey?

For Danny Macaskill, I would like you to answer the following prompt, considering why you think I show this video to you: What can Danny's riding teach us about ourselves and how we learn and do things in our own lives? How might his skills transfer into our own resolve to go after the things we are passionate about?

  3. In the video, "Dear Future Generations: Sorry" a lot of different facts and quotes stood out to me and actually gave me the chills to some of things I had no clue occurred. He pointed out the fact that the amount of plastic use has filled up our oceans and killed so much marine life, and I already knew this fact but it really sunk down when he said it in the way he said it. One of my questions was throughout the video he pointed out all of the negative but never clearly pointed out how to fix the problems we have created. This bothered me because teachers show these videos to their students and the only way that it can be really impactful is by finding solutions and they wasn't much of that throughout this video. Lastly, watching this video has taught me to watch the amount of plastic, water, and just daily things I do that can and will impact next generations and this Earth in a negative way. The next video, "If You Want to Change the World..." pointed out just by conquering a simple task like making your bed in the morning will prompt you to complete more tasks throughout the day. This thought has never occurred to me so when the Navy Seal said it to end up telling his stories it really seemed important. This video also proclaims and shows that hope in this world can accomplish anything by having hope in completing a task, you will complete that task. The Navy Seal tells a story about having to spend 24 hours in freezing cold mud, and it was so hard for all of the men but they began to sing and it got them through it. Just by one person having hope caused no one to quit this brutal training procedure. I think one question I had was how making your bed connected with the horrible conditioned Navy Seal training. What I learned from this video was to make my bed every morning and that will allow me to do the next task and the next one and the next one until I fall back asleep in my made bed.

The Danny Macaskill, "Inspired Bicycles" was a very passionate and determined video. Danny's riding showed me personally that although you may fail there is always a second chance to try again. Danny did a lot of tricks and he had to fail so many times to finally perfect his trick. He was so passionate about biking and getting it done and by being like that he got things done, we can do the same. By being passionate about our dreams we can conquer them, for example if you want to be a professional basketball player you must practice and if you miss or fail you can get back up and try again. By never giving up, Danny taught us, you will get it done.

  4. Dear Future Generation Sorry - This video stood out to me for a number of reasons. It showed how this world wasn't always what it seems. Why? That's the question that this video made me ask. Why have we not fixed it? Why did it happen in the first place? It showed me that we should not be careless about what we have because others after us may not get the same. Future generation will not get what past generation gave to us. It impacts all o are lives. When we grow up what would we want for are kids. We as people need to are about other people just as people care for us. His poetry sand word choice moved me. Poetry I think shows human thought and passion the one thing he says we don't have enough, because if we did we were thinking about the future long before now. That is the way this video impacted me.

Can We Autocorrect Humanity - I liked this video. It pointed out human flaws in a very real way. I think people in this day and age don't do that enough. It showed that if we are always staring down we cant live in the way we were made to live. We don't talk to people or build relationships we just stare. Into space we can't find relationships, so why do we do it so very often? Look at the screens and never bother to look up at the world, but if we are all on are phones what is their to look at? It did no tell you how to fix the problem but it just bought it to are attention. It tells us - Hey world when are we are going to get real and snap back into what life truely is. This video moved me in that way. Showing me what we are doing incorrectly and why in a way I never thought of.

Danny Macaskill - To be completly honest, I don't know. I don't know how it impacts my life. Maybe it means try new things or never give up. I know that's a lame answer but its a true one. I feel like people show us videos like this to inspire us but I don't understand why. Why do I need to be inspired? After seeing it I still am unawear of what great thing I can acompish. Needless to say I think he is increadible, but how did we deside that what he does is increadible. I mean what if it were a man typing on his computer and we though that was increadible. If that was increadible than how would my expectations of me change. How do we as humans make something great and what does that look like or the rest of us. I dont ride bicks like that and I am almost positive that, that will never be me. So what am I saying? I don't know the question to that either. I guess the basis is passion. I am not very sure and I think that, that makes for an okay answer. Maybe I will learn what it is someday but yet again I still don't know.

  5. For the video Dear Future Generations: Sorry, the ideas that stood out to me most was the fact that because of what we are doing our kids might grow up in a very different world. Because we are polluting the planet and using it for our own personal gain, our kids might not know what trees are. Or they might not understand that we could once swim in the ocean. And when they ask us why the world is the way it is today, we are going to have to explain to them how we ruined the planet. People are also doing these things in the name of progress, but it is not progress if we are taking away the joy of being on this planet. These videos teach that we need to stop being so selfish because this planet is not ours and one day other people will have to live on it to and we don't want to be the ones who ruined it for them. In the video If You Want To Change the World, Start Off By Making Your Bed, the idea that stood out to me was that you can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it. Most people are overwhelmed by all the things that have to do which makes it so that they just don't get anything done. If we can finish the simple task of making our bed every morning, it will make it so we can feel productive and accomplish other things. Some people think that doing small tasks is not important, but little things build into greater things and before you know it everything you needed to do will be done. It also shows that you should never give up. It doesn't matter if you feel overwhelmed or so exhausted you just can't finish, you need to push through because in the end you will look back on it and feel proud of yourself that you did the impossible. In the video by Danny Macaskill, Inspired Bicycles, Danny's riding can teach us that we need to take charge in our own life and not be afraid to go for what we love. It also teaches that when you do things you need to never give up even if you fail over and over again you need to keep getting back up and trying again because that is the only way you will succeed in life. Just because something may be hard, you can't just give up; the only way to achieve what you want is to grab it by the neck and never let go.

  6. Throughout Can We Autocorrect Humanity, they continuously mentioned that the human race was constantly on electronics and we have to make more human interactions. What stood out to me was the fact that a lot of relationships were created due to the internet and not human interactions which is kinda strange. Also that phones blind us from what is actually going on in the world, we are so into our phones that we don't notice the things around us for example the environment. Another one is we need to control ourselves when we are on our electronics, I'm not that bad at controlling myself but my sister is constantly on her phone and I can see it is effecting her life along with my brother. I want to know, how do we fix this? Parents could restrict phone use with their kids but me being a kid who experiences this, I know it makes you want to go on the phone more. I think that video was important because I have noticed how addicted teens and adults are to their phones and I believe that it should change. You can learn about how phones are like barriers keeping us on the outside of face to face relationships instead of screen to screen relationships and this could change the way kids view their phones.

If You Want To Change The World... also resonated with me the most because although I don't make my bed everyday, when I do make my bed I do feel accomplished and I want to accomplish more throughout the day. When the man was telling us about the military training he talked about not giving up and trying your hardest will get you places, I thought that was important for people to watch so they can believe in theirselves and their dreams. Also when he was telling the story with the mud and the cold air and when the soldiers began to sing to cheer up and they began to feel warmer, and that gave them hope. I think thats important because if you have hope you can complete things and preserver through hard moments. A question I would ask would probably be why making your bed? There are other goals in the morning you can complete. I thought the video was inspiring because seeing the pictures of the military training and seeing how hard the things they were doing are and seeing them finish it was satisfying to see because even in hard moments you can get through it. I see the videos teaching kids to follow their dreams even if they seem impossible and this matters because its important to know even your strange goals are important.

I believe we were showed Danny Macaskill's Inspired Bicycles video because in the beginning it showed him not completing his goal and falling but then the rest of the video was him succeeding in all the obstacles. It was to show us that if you fail at first, that's okay because you can succeed from that. When you fail you should get up and try again. It can teach us to not get down on ourselves when we do bad on a test or in a sport but instead you should learn from that and do your best to succeed the next time and continue doing that until you succeed. Danny wasn't always good at riding, it probably took him a while to get at the level he is at. We are all beginners in the beginning. So If you try your hardest at your goal and continue to work at it, you could be as good at whatever you are passionate about as Danny is at biking.

  7. In the video- "Dear Future Generations Im Sorry" it talked about how there is so much waste and plastic in the oceans that it is killing marine life and ruining our oceans. It really stood out to me and made me want to do something about it before there is nothing we can do at all and it really made me take a minute to think about how we are destroying our planet.

"If You Want To Change The World"- Another video we watched that really stood out to me and made me take a minute to stop and think about it was the one with the Navy Seal speaking. He talked about when you start out your day by making your bed, you have already accomplished something. It will make you want to get up and accomplish more on top of it. He also mentioned that they group of seals in which they called the "munchkin seals" because they were so small were the fastest and first ones done with their tasks. He then said "measure a person by the size of their heart, not the size of their flipper" . He said that life is not fair and you will fail often and to find someone to help you through life. This video and the Navy Seals words really made me take a minute to stop and think for a moment and it inspired me. I think this video purveys a good message and it matters a lot. So tomorrow morning when you wake up, make your bed and accomplish something at the start of the day.

Danny Macaskill- "Inspired Bicycles"- In this video, Danny is a really good bike rider and he does lots of insane tricks. At one point he is trying to ride his bike along the top of a fence and he keeps falling down and failing but he keeps getting up and trying again until he gets it. His skills can really make an impact on our everyday lives because it shows us that we should never give up no matter how many times we fail and when we fall down we need to just get back up and try again.

  8. In these videos that we have watched I have found that we can learn a lot about the choices we as humanity have made, but the most important thing we can learn is how these choices also effect humanity. In the first video that I really connected with, "Can we Auto Correct Humanity?" what really stood out to me was the amount of time that we spend looking down at our technology. This reaction came from the statistic that the Average human spends up to four whole years on their cell phone. First of all I thought what would happen if we took cell phones out completely, would that mean every person have a lot more time to do things everyday? I would think so because 4 years of someones life is much to long of a time to be spent looking down at a phone. Another big point I found interesting in the video is that cell phones are actually doing the opposite of what they were made to do. They do help us communicate with others but they lower our self confidence and self worth and sometimes bring people down because of what is on there. The Second Video that I thought really related to me was, "If You Want to Change the World...". I Found that this video really related to me not in this class but in seventh grade when I watched this video for the first time. I found it so ironic that to change the world you only have to make your bed, but after he kept showing how doing that one thing in the morning can really change you as a person I found it very inspiring. After I watched that video I have made my bed ever since and it really has changed me as a person because now I really do value everything in life, not just the big picture. A question that I got from this video was how can I give someone hope everyday. I got this question from when he was explaining the one voice coming from the mud flats, and I thought that everyday I could also change the world just by giving others hope. Lastly, in the Danny Macaskill video the biggest thing that I could take away from this video was that practice makes perfect. I took this away from his first video in the city where he was trying to ride across the thin fence and the first couple of times he tried it he failed. After he kept trying and trying he eventually got there and rode across the whole thing. A question that I took away from that video was how much do I have to practice to be good at what I want to do in life. I really think that should be a question for everyone because we should all be doing something we love in life, so why not be good at it to do it for the rest of our lives. In the end there are a lot of things that humanity could learned from these videos, and all of these concepts are very important and relate to our real world philosophies.

  10. One of the videos that resonated with me was the "Dear Future Generations, Sorry" video. This resonated with me for a couple of reasons. This video made me think about my everyday doings, it made me think about the future, and it made me think of the past. These all connect because our doings right now are based off the past and are going to shape the future. I connected this video to trash because everyday I throw trash away and never think about it again. But, trash is a major problem in our oceans and will shape the future, and the trash is there because of the past. This was my personal connection, but there are many more connections that are to be made. The creator of the video wanted to show the audience what could happen in the future based on the past and present and what negative effects the future of the world could obtain, like trash.

The second video that stood out to me was the make your bed speech. This speech really changed my perspective on the little things in the world. I have always been taught through sports that little things like fundamentals helps our skills improve so much more. I also learned about how teamwork can get you through so many things in life, including SEAL training. This also connects to the point of getting through the hard parts of life. Teamwork is the number one way to get out of life and sports, which connects to me the most. This video definitely connected me back with sports even though the speaker was part of the army.

Finally, the Danny Macaskill video taught me a lot without speaking. It showed many examples of him failing and hurting himself before showing amazing tricks that he pulled off. This teaches us how much potential everyone in this world has and how much we need to work on these skills as well. You could tell throughout the video that Danny has worked for a very long time on his biking skills and how he drove a passion into a reality. He shows us all that through hard work and a driving passion you can be anything you want to be.

  11. Dear future generations: What points I liked about this is that we have to do something because we are making our future generations pay for our mistake, our problems. The point I really liked is that if we keep this up there will be more plastic/trash in the oceans than fish which really disappoints me and also the future won't be able to see the amazing fish and coral reefs. Another Idea I liked was that the future will have to wear masks because of the pollution in the air. Also the Idea I liked is that in our fish we are eating plastic and the fish are eating up because we put it in the ocean. I really liked this video because I feel that it can make people realize what we are doing and inspire people to step in and make a change to our way of plastic and trash.

If you want to change the world: If you want to change the world make your bed every day. This quote really makes me think that something so simple can affect the rest of your day to be better. One point I really liked is that when he went through hell week he and some other people did not give up and did not quit even though it was hard and torture they found that little bit of hope to pull thru. Another point I liked is that if you have a hard day and it was not going so well for yourself you already made your bed so at least you have a made bed to come home to at the end of the day. Also I liked that if everyone was like this then we could work faster and get a lot more things done with for example helping the oceans pollution. Overall this video made me feel inspired to do something more today.

Danny Macaskill: I think you showed us this video of Danny bike riding to show us that if we love something and want to make it a profession then go for it. I think his bike riding can show us that if you keep working at something over and over again and keep training you can make it and show people that you can do it and make it a profession.

  12. 2 out of the top 3 links that resonated with me the most are ' Can we auto correct Humanity' and 'Dear future Generations: Sorry'.

Can we auto correct Humanity: What stood out to me in this video is the facts about Humanity and Technology. He showed us that technology is taking over our lives. The average person spends 4 years of their life looking at their phone. This is probably larger for teenagers because we spend a lot of time on our phones. He also showed us that not only is technology wasting our precious time on this beautiful planet called Earth, but it is negatively affecting us in other ways. Technology has made it so we can almost never be bored, but in work and school, you can't watch Youtube, Netflix, Twitch, or play games, which makes us think about those things a lot more because we are waiting until we can use them again, which lowers our Attention span.

Dear Future Generations: This video shows us that we are to wrapped up in trying to make money and creating new things to look around and see what those new things are doing to us.
We are cutting down 40 football fields worth of trees every minute, for a piece of paper that holds this world together. We are polluting seas, lakes, ponds, oceans so much that in a few decades we might not be able to swim in them. He showed us the truth about the world in this video which is why it resonated with me so much.

Danny Macaskill: The theme in this short film is that Humans are very amazing strong powerful beings and if we harness that energy, we can turn it into something like Danny Macaskill did. He showed us that we can do anything if we put our mind to it and never give up. If we keep pushing then we all can be successful, whether that's sports or school or entertainment or whatever your passion is, you can do it if you push hard enough.

  13. After watching a variety of different videos, "Can We Autocorrect Humanity" and "If You Want to Change the World..." stood out the most. These two videos can resonate with most watchers, for they are both made to inspire watchers to better themselves. "Can We Autocorrect Humanity" focused on the usage of technology and how social media is taking over the lives of our society. To begin, the poem states "we sit at home on our computers measuring self-worth by followers and likes, ignoring those who actually love us," showing that many real relationships are put aside due to the apparent importance of virtual ones. While surrounded by other people, one can find themselves indulged in their device rather than socializing with those around them. Also, the video explains how one with a great number of followers can be the most alone, for a social image can lead others to perceive incorrect information about one's life. Finally, the video touches on the fact that our generation is based on over simulation, using an abundance of abbreviations, sending short video clips, and using minimal characters when communicating. It is shown that technology not only affects one's social skills negatively, but can threaten one's education. "If You Want to Change the World..." focused on the small steps one can take everyday to become a better person, no matter how that will be achieved. The NAVY Seal states "If you make your bed everyday you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another, " inspiring the audience to ease their way into completing significant tasks. The Seal goes into depth explaining different experiences on duty, and tells the story about the best boat, consisting of the smallest men. He later states "If you want to change the world, measure a person by the size of their heart, not the size of their flippers," proving that mentality overrides all other aspects of a successful person. Finally, he says "If you want to change the world, you must be your very best in the darkest moment," for one must keep composer, even when its hard, if looking for a favorable outcome. Each video can portray a different theme to all observers, but both pieces inspired me to appreciate those around me and do my best in all activities no matter the circumstances.

After watching the segment about Danny Macaskill, his riding shows the audience his persistence and passion regarding his sport. One can watch his perseverance as he rides, for after he falls he continues to put forth all effort until achieving his goals. He shows that learning involves failure, for one must try new things in order to succeed. His skills can transfer into the lives of others by inspiring one to take risks with anything worth achieving. As Macaskill goes off jumps around bizarre areas, viewers are left on the edge of their seats, wondering what he will do next. Because he leaves many in shock after watching what he is capable of, he can be driven to get a reaction out of the people around him. One can use him as an example and find what drives them to get better within their passion. Danna Macaskill leads by example, inspiring a variety of different people completing different tasks.

  14. The two videos I picked are: Can we Auto Correct Humanity and Dear Future Generations: Sorry

Can We Auto Correct Humanity: 1. The point of this video is that we need to stop putting all of our attention on our devices so much 2. start paying more attention to the world and people around us. 3. communicate with one another and be more present in each others lives. I think that we all should be off our devices more and experience life for what it is and there are bad things but there are also really good things to it, I don't use my phone a lot in public or when i'm with friends because I like to be in the present with things, I like to observe everything that interests me when i'm in public. I think its better when i'm not on my phone, I feel more free and I get more time to think and I think id be better for everyone if they weren't on their phone so much. Why do people use their phones and compare them self to others so much?

Dear Future Generations: Sorry. 1. The point to this video is that in the past we have not cared for our world and now its a big mess, 2. Its up to the new generation to clean up and fix this world.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Dear Future generations: What I liked about this video was the facts that he was saying. It makes you think about how your daily routine is actively making our planet into a trash covered, boiling hell hole for our children and their children and so on. But it gives hope in the message when he says that we are not fully there yet. Prince EA talked about the rapid deforestation of the planet, and how future generations may know the amazon rainforest as the amazon dessert. He believes that future generations might not even know what a tree is. Prince EA talks about how 50% of the world's trees have been cut down and when the question is asked (why?) he holds up a hundred dollar bill. Symbolizing two things 1.Profits from deforestation and natural resources and 2.actual paper itself. He talks about how the native americans cared deeply for the land they lived on and how they were thinking forward seven generations, and then how we don't even think for tomorrow.

If you want to change the world: What I liked about this video was the inspirational story that was told. About how the marines did not give up under any of the harsh trials they were subjected to. The Admiral told the story about how the marines swam through the water off California, and how If they came across a shark they had to stand their ground and punch the shark in the nose. The Admiral told of the group of training marines sitting in freezing cold neck high mud for an entire night. If one manquit they could all get out, but nobody quit. He told of how the training marines started singing and until dawn the mud was a little bit warmer. This story is an inspiring thing that I will remember when I think that I can't go on. The message of unity and perseverance will stay with me.

Danny Makasil: Why I think we were showed this is in class along with all of the other videos, even though there was no clear message was to show us as a class that if we worked toword somthing we could be really good at it.

  16. I believe that the videos "Dear Future Generations: Sorry" and "Can we Auto-correct Humanity" are both very similar but very different videos, they both draw people in with the rhythm and music and that stands out for both of them. In "Dear Future Generations: Sorry" the artist talks about how much past generations have done to the earth and how much they have hurt and ruined it. What really stood out about "Dear Future Generations: Sorry" is that he genuinely seems sorry and about how clearly he wants the viewer to take initiative. In "Can we Auto-correct Humanity" it is a similar concept, except the artist talks about how much cell phones and personal electronics have taken over peoples lives and what stands out about that video is the facts, they really make you think about how often you are on your phones, he says the average person spends 4 years looking down at their phone, that made me wonder how long I already have stared at my phone. In "Can we Auto-correct Humanity" I really wonder how true the facts he uses are because he doesn't have a single citing, and 4 years is a long time to be looking at a phone. I would challenge a few of the facts in both videos, they just don't seem realistic. I personally do not see "Dear Future Generations: Sorry" teaching many people anything other then the world is ruined and the facts he states. I believe the same for "Can we Auto-correct Humanity", except this video can teach you that even though you don't think you do you are constantly looking at your phone. These videos are important even though they can't teach you much because they show you things and really open your eyes. I believe the message both of these videos state is that people need to change themselves and the world for the better of both.

In “Inspired Bicycles” Danny Macaskill is riding around on a bmx bike doing insane tricks that I did not think were possible, His riding can show us that you can do something you love for a job and working can be fun, it does not have to be a boring office job. But also “Inspired Bicycles” can teach you that you can do things that both you and those around you did not think were possible because I never imagined any of the things he did were possible. His skills could transfer into our lives because he loves riding bikes, and that is his job, if we love something why not pursue it?

  17. In the video "Dear Future Generations: I'm Sorry" he talks about how we are ruining our earth by putting plastic in the oceans and killing marine life. This video stood out to me because some of the things he said in the video I hadn't realized and it really just made me think about how much we are hurting our planet and how we might be getting to the point that we can't do anything about it.

Another video we watched called "If You Want to Change the World" really stood out to me because the Navy Seal was talking about how something as simple as making your bed can really change your day because you've accomplished such a simple task, it made me think about how what he was saying was extremely true and wasn't something I'd thought of before. He also talked about the training group that was nicknamed the "Munchkin Group" because of their size and how they were able to do the tasks better than the taller, stronger looking guys , this really made me think about how it doesn't matter how tall you are or your weight, you can still accomplish big things.

In "Inspired Bicycles" Danny Macaskill shows people that its good to get back up and try again after failing by him doing insane tricks on his bike and messing up a lot. It teaches people that you and others can accomplish things you thought were impossible, just like his tricks. He also inspires people to chase after their dreams just like he did, because his job is doing something he loves, biking and tricks. I think although it didn't really say anything the video speaks to people in different ways without using words.

    Dear Future Generations : Sorry

    Can We Autocorrect Humanity ?

In Dear Future Generations he talks about the future not what can we fix now but what’s going to happen. He states solid facts and assumptions that can actually be possible and likely to happen. He talks about a football field of trees are getting cut down every minute which is very crazy but true. This is a scary fact because we are cutting down nature just for some paper bills. He also talks a lot about pollution and how some people in parts of countries have to wear masks just to go outside. India has so much pollution it affects their food. India has waves of trash wash up on their beaches. Here in the US and other places trash goes into the eco-system. Waste goes into the earth, then the grass, then cows feed of that grass which affects our milk and meat.

In Can We Autocorrect Humanity he talks about the corrupt parts of society socially. He talks about the average person spends 4 years looking at his phone or a personal device. He tells us that Social Networks should be called “Anti Social Networks”. He says while some people have huge friend lists some people don’t have any friends whether that be on Facebook or real life. Technology has changed people so much that humans went from meeting in person to skype or facetime. He also said people need to look up more enjoy life and experience

In the Danny Macaskill video even though it was just him on a bicycle he showed some stuff extra. He showed in the beginning some simple jumps and balance and even sometimes failing or falling or not making a jump. He then later shows more advanced jumps and crazy good balance and almost no fails. I think the lesson was practice makes perfect and anything you put your mind to you can get better at. His video was inspiring to those who fail at thing that they can get better.

  19. The two videos that I believe resonated with me were "Dear future generations: Im sorry" and the "If you want to change the world video..". These videos resonate with me because if thier meaning, the people in those videos truly feel the way they do; in the first video Prince Ea doesn't make videos for the sake of it. He truly feels sorry for what past generations have done to the earth, with deforestation, air pollution, water pollution. But towards the end is my personal favorite part of the video, when he starts talking about how we can change this, how we as future generations have help it become the beauty it was destined to be. My question towards this video is, how can we make this happen, how can we get everybody in the mindset of changing the world for the greater good? In today's world many people do not believe the world is in harm, they do not believe they or anyone has done damage to the world, how can we get these people to help us continue to live on a beautiful earth. I see this video teaching that the world cannot up itself if we continue to hurt it, Prince Ea does this so well by showing the after maths if we do not help, animal extinction, no trees, no habitable earth. I feel that "Dear Future Generations: Sorry" is truly important because with the attitude given in the video and the statements Prince Ea gives can really teach somebody to change, to change how they view the earth, how they contribute to harming the earth; this video can really change someone as a person and their attitudes.
As for the second video "If you want to change the world", this video too has a whole bunch of meaning. As William McRaven is a Navy Admiral, what he does gives a whole new meaning to his speech to me. He has been protecting people, he loves what he does, though it is dangerous it does it anyway. In his video he talks about doing the little things in life in order to accomplish the bigger things, that was one of the greatest things that stood out to me. I feel that it is completely true, as humans we feel a great sense of accomplishment when completing something, if we continue to do the small things we could do incredible things, which could change the world. Another part which i think really stood out was his example of the navy groups. When he started to talk about the men, i would have thought the taller and bigger guys would have done a better job than the smaller men. But when he begins to talk about them and how they did not let their size or what anyone else thought get in their way and completing their goal, which if enough persistence is continued they could do great things. Lastly as the first video did, this viedo as well give an example of hope. When talking about the mud on wednesday of hell week , he showed a great example of hope. The men could have quit at any second, but instead they decided to sing. Sining gave them all hope to stay there complete their goals, to achieve something greater. A question i have for this video is, what do you do if other people were to bring you down? I think that this video is important because it shows anyone can do great things, but you have to start somewhere, even if it means by making your bed.
As for the Danny Macaskill video, i feel that you showed us this video because in life we all have to persevere in order to succeed. In the video we see Danny fail many time, but he doesn't stop, he continues until he is able to do whatever he wants to do. What annys riding can teach us about ourselves is that at first were not going to be perfect on something, but the more we try the more we learn; allowing us to better ourselves and accomplish whatever we want to accomplish. His skills can transfer to us, i say this not in the sense of bike tricks but tricks for perseverance, in the videos he produces he does not give up, which can affect everyone showing people that if you try enough and practice enough you can eventually succeed, even if it means doing the smallest or the greatest things.

  20. Dear Future Generations: Sorry stood out to me in many ways. The narrator talked as if that he was sad/despaired that he would have to tell the ‘Future Generations’ sorry. The narrator seemed as if he was talking for the current generations as a whole. As if that the generations were gone and that this video would still be out when the ‘Future Generations’ would be able to see his apology- and he talks as if he knows that all these things are going to happen. In the middle of the video, he started saying that if we refuse to change our ways, then this apology letter may actually be truthful. The letter may need to actually be an apology if we, as the generations, don’t do anything about our deteriorating ecosystem.
I felt as if this video was very impactful, seeing as it has over 12 million views, and most comments are positive. I don’t believe that it actually made a difference, though, and that is possibly something that is truly and utterly sad and disappointing. It’s simply not enough. This video teaches people to look deeper into what we’re actually doing to ourselves; what we’re doing to the ecosystem. I do feel as if this video matters as it shows the awful and sad truth that is our humanity at the moment. I can learn from this video that sometimes what people need is a slap in the face of reality, and I believe that this video does exactly that.
If You Want to Change the World.. gave me a shiver down the spine and goosebumps along the arms. The speech starts off with a daring statement, “If you want to change the world: make your bed every day.” which makes people chuckle and roll their eyes. But as the video continues on, it shows that the US Navy Admiral is all in the like of serious. Another thing that caught my attention was the speech itself. How it seemed to represent that even doing something small each and every day could possibly blossom into something as big as changing the world. One last thing that stuck out to me was simply one line: “And if, by chance, you have a miserable day: ...come home to a bed that is made. A made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.” By doing something small for yourself at the beginning of the day, you will return to that something at the end of the day and remind yourself that you indeed can do this and that another day equals a fresh start to something that perhaps will be better.
I find that this video teaches many things; do the small things right and once you do go on to bigger things, get into good habits, remember there is a better day, to keep pushing forward even though you wish to quit, and many more. This US Navy Admiral has been through more than I could probably imagine and has lived and poured all his emotions into a speech that shows his morality and what he’s learned over the years. This video matters because it is, quite literally, the legacy of this US Navy Admiral. This speech teaches the youth of today that no matter what hardship they’re facing- they can overcome it. I can learn from this video that small habits help in the future when you want to tackle something even harder or tougher, and knowing that you’ll be able to get through it.
What we can learn from Danny’s riding is that our passions and abilities to do whatever we can is important. Not only to us but for others too. Danny’s inspirational riding shows the youth what can be them if they can achieve their dream if they don’t give up. Danny shows that doing what you love for a living is indeed quite possible. Though it doesn't work out for many, there are few people who has the ability to say, “I do what I want to.” His skills transfer into our own resolve to go after the things we are passionate about by showing that doing something that you love is what’s important to keep in mind. To remind people to ground themselves after a particularly rough day. Their passions could and maybe an escape gate to walk through when their head is reeling. I know that my passion is certainly that for me.

  21. Of the three I felt that "if you want change the world" was the one that resonated with me most. That video showed me Ideas and gave me scenarios that show me even I can change the world. One of those is just by making your bed. He elaborated on this by saying that by making your bed you are giving yourself reason to go after another task and another until you accomplished what you sought. Another point he made is about the small crew in the Navy Seals that did better than most even though they were smaller. This is showing me that it doesn't matter your size, or height, or where you came from, you can do great. One other point he made was that in groups and willpower alone you can change and accomplish amazing things(the mud pit). I felt like his speech came from experience and that if we want something start small, start small then go bigger and bigger. It was very heartfelt and I enjoyed it personally.
The other video that got a reaction out of me was the “can we auto-correct humanity”. For one I do agree with some points Prince EA brings up, like him saying sometimes we need to look up. I also very much enjoyed hw he presented the information, the poetry was very well written and put down. Although I didn't like more than half of what he was saying and felt like it was more opinionated than anything else. For me I was always told do what makes me happy, if for some people that posting pictures on instagram then let them be happy. If some people don't like meeting in person and prefer skype(who uses skype?) then let them do that. I feel like its opinionated because he says “social network” should be called “anti-social network”, I don't feel like that’s fact, people can connect in many more ways than they could 20 years ago and I feel like it is doing its job(I realise this is also an opinion but this is my though on that). He also says that connection between people haven't gotten better even with technology. I feel like this statement should be taken with a little bit of salt, yes it’s true that sometimes we do go on our phones sometimes a little too much but not to the point of where we are putting in between our loved ones. It’s also point that he makes is that we get happiness from likes on posts and Im not sure about his overall point with that, yes that happens, if it makes people happy then don’t be an ass to them about it.
Overall though I feel like something can be taken away from both of these videos. Small things can lead to the best things or look up more. Whether it be I feel like both have a message that depending on the person can make a change.

Danny’s videos about him biking I felt like were supposed to make us feel like anything can be done, with enough trial and error it can be done. He shows us this by showing the times he fails, and fails. This creates a sort of inspiration for what can be done. He also attempts what seems to be the impossible and after showing us some of the fails and then him succeeding it can create an inspirational feeling.

  22. If You Want To Change The World had many points that I really liked about little things can change so much around you and for yourself. One point that really stood out to me was when the navy seal said “If you want to change the world start off by making your bed”. I found this true because some days I have bad days, and when I get home the littlest things get me. So having my bed made could change a lot that day. Another point the Navy Seal made was “Nothing matters but your will to succeed”. From this I learned that if you are truly willing and determined to succeeding you will accomplish it no matter the circumstances. A third point the navy seal made that was the power of hope is strong and can change man things. I also learned that power of hope is very strong because the man ended up talking about how in the mud pit the singing made everybody last until the morning.

Can We Autocorrect Humanity had 3 major points that had me thinking about how true what Prince EA said. One major point was about how we sit at home on our computers measure our self worth by likes. I connected with this because in middle school many of the girls would get depressed or get anxiety because they getting 100 likes or 200 likes and it was sad to see how people only cared about how many likes they got. Another point I found interesting was how the average attention span of an adult is one second less than a goldfish. And it just made me realize how fast paced our lives are and we don't relax enough. The last major point is how humanity cares too much about what others think of them. I think it's crazy how this is how people have become and how if you don’t post about your life 24/7 your the crazy one. Why did humans begin to care so much about what people think of them and determine their self worth with likes?

Danny Macaskill riding can teach us about how persistent and determined we could be if we want something. It also teaches us that to learn something we need to be patient but also willing to put time and effort into learning something we want to learn. His skills might transfer into our resolves to go after something were passionate by teaching us patience and many other traits. Though his skills also teach that if you are really passionate about something you will put effort, time, practice, and resilience into becoming good or doing the things we are passionate about we will find a way to do what we are passionate about.

  24. Danny Macaskill persevered through all the hardships he faced and broke the chains that held him from grasping his dream. Many people said that he was not strong enough, it was impossible, etc. Now Danny Macaskill is living his dream because he did not hear, "this is impossible" from other people he heard that it was never done before. Mr. Macaskill is a prime example of a man breaching the barrier of impossibility and reaching their goal. The barrier of impossibility was an illusion made by people so that the unknown was barricaded, but what most people don't realize is that the fear of the unknown is curiosity. Curiosity is mankind's greatest malleable power, people can mold it into fear or they can mold it into strength and hope.

We should learn from Danny Macaskill because there are many destinies out there for the taking and we all can grasp them if we give our journey time and effort. If someone says “you can’t” or “it's impossible” what they mean to say is “try again”, they are trying to say “do it”. People who have lost their spark and essence are the only people who can’t achieve the impossible. Even then sparks can be ignited again when it is their calling. Every human in this world is sent to find a purpose without knowing what it is. The journey that helps you find your purpose is also the journey that helps you learn and grow, and when you face the biggest hurdle you will have hope, you will have curiosity, you will have dreams that will make sure you win. In the end, it all comes down to trying, failing and trying and the journey that helps you experience the impossible.

Dear future generations we are sorry. The title itself evokes sadness or maybe even anger from the generation Z. The world was once a beautiful place where all living things lived in balance and harmony. When humans started “progressing” they forgot what helped them progress. When they built the factories, farms, houses, malls they forgot what helped supply wood and other natural resources. There is no quick fix to the Earth’s problems now but we must make sure that we can slowly start making up for what we did to it. The future is uncertain and is almost hopeless but what the future isn’t is decided. If people band together and start thinking before doing then they can start repairing the damage. Now that people aren’t in the dark we can stand up and help Earth in the little ways we can. There are more than 7 billion people on Earth if everyone picks up a bag of garbage everyday then the whole world will start repairing itself slowly. I think that people should act now because the future is uncertain. What we do today cannot be done tomorrow.

Making your bed everyday is the start of the day and will help people practice changing the world. When the small things that you do change your day then the world will also accept the changes. If people persevere against the “sharks” in the world they will have a sense of joy and pride. That battle had given you and the people around you hope. Hope is something that spreads like a disease. Hope can be started from one person. Hope from a single person can change the world. Face all the fears and hurdles to live in a generation where everyone understands each other’s pain and they would learn to see the future. I think that people should also think of the hurdles in their lives as sharks and think of what lies ahead. People should think about beating the sharks and heading for the shoreline because that just might make one less shark in the world. Then one day there will be no sharks in the world. People will understand other’s pain and help others. The world will become a world with no pain.

  25. The two videos that resonated with me were “Dear future generations: sorry” and “Can we autocorrect humanity?” “Dear future generations: sorry” talked about the future of the Earth. I like how the video described how beautiful the Earth is and how the majority of the human race doesn't know/understand how lucky they are to have it. “Dear future generations: sorry” talked about how if people do not change the way that they do things soon there will be no more trees, no more animals or fish, and the population will get so bad that people all around the world will have to wear masks in order to breath. I thought that the video “Dear future generations: sorry” did a really good job showing the reality of our world right now. The second video, “Can we autocorrect humanity?” addresses people’s addiction to their phone. The video talks about how technology has corrupted people’s minds. “Can we autocorrect humanity?” shows people obsd with their phone as zombies. It talked about how people pay more attention to their online “friends” than their real ones and their family. Another one of the points that was made was people measuring self worth based on likes and views. Many people are mocked and judged for what they post/their likes. I thought that Both videos were very realistic and made the viewer think about how the video impacts their life. I really enjoyed watching them.

Danny Macaskill has an amazing talent to do unheard of tricks on his bike. His riding can teach us about ourselves by showing us that not everything is impossible. Macaskill’s bike riding is an amazing example of how life works. Life is not always easy, but if you keep at it and keep pushing forward despite the pain it might cause you will eventually reach your goals and purpose in life. Danny Macaskill is a perfect example of why you should try things. If he had never learned or tried to bike he would not be doing what he is doing today. The same goes for other people. If you never try something new you will never know if it’s your passion. When you find your passion go after it and see where it takes you, for all you know you could by jumping from rock to rock down a mountain.

  26. In Dear future Generations: I'm Sorry" some things clicked in my head about what this guy was saying and i feel like I really took n what he was trying to say. At first he was saying sorry about what future generations left for us gen z kids. Then he made a point that it was not all there fault its out fault as well as people to do our job to make this planet a nice stable and healthy planet for us to live on.So we don't have to be sorry for future generations. He also made a point that the more we litter and pollute the world we are killing animals and causing beaches of trash that people just left, flushed down a toilet. This video is also going to make me a lot more cautious of what i put in the trash and to pick things up when I drop them because to know that every piece of trash or junk that someone leaves it is adding more to the damage we have already created and it is going to be that much harder to make changes.

  27. In the video of Danny Macaskill doing his bike tricks really got to me because the message put in to this video is great I think it is saying no matter how much you fail you can always and should always get back up, and that if mistakes are made that means you are learning and i think that is very motivating. It also portrays that you have to start from the bottom and work your way up to the top, talent is not given you have to work hard at something to become good at it and that is exactly what he did he fell off scraped himself probably and he got back up taking risks of hurting himself even more to do what he wanted to do.
